Dunalva and Carlo Jaeger

Two Smiling People

Carlo and Dunalva Jaeger - Our Calling

Because of Carlo’s European roots, we are thinking that God may call us to Portugal (or other locale in Europe) for the next mission assignment.  All of Europe, including Portugal is very lost and has very few evangelical Christians. So we are praying and waiting for clear direction from the Lord.

For now, we are praying for direction and looking for partners to participate in developing our ministry in Europe.

If this is our future, we face these challenges:

  1. We need prayer partners, the right strategy to start the ministry and financial partners to enable this work.
  2. Clarity of the calling, elaborating the specifics of the project and creating an action plan for that country.
  3. Arrival in the country, adapting to the culture, and making contacts with evangelical churches and their leaders.
  4. If not Portugal, language learning for Dunalva
  5. Visa, air fare and necessary documents to enter and stay in that country.
  6. Financial resources to sustain our lives and enable investment in the ministry.

Meet Dunalva Coelho and Carlo Jaeger

Dunalva and Carlo met in 2009 in the Northeast of the USA and were married in 2016.  This is rather remarkable since Carlo was born in Luxembourg and Dunalva is from Brazil and lived eleven years in East Timor.

God is a specialist for connecting people!   Participating at a conference in New Jersey, Dunalva got to know Carlo’s pastor. He presented us to each other in 2009.  We became friends, we dated and in 2016 we got married to the glory of God.  With us, God had the objective that His name is glorified and we be blessed.

Dunalva Coelho - Early Years

Dunalva was born into a very Catholic family.  In her early years, she was very active in church activities.  At the age of 15, she decided to study with the nuns.  She tried to get into a convent to become nun.

There was a thirst for truth in her heart. She was trying to quench it by participating at all events, ministering the eucharist and helping the priest distribute the hosties.   Then she started to read God’s word.   After participating in group Bible studies and reading John 8:32 (“Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free,” NIV), she made a commitment to Christ.

At her first year of university, when she was 19, God talked strongly  about her heart for missions. There Dunalva received Mt 4:19 fisher of men and Jer. 1:5-6.  From that moment onwards she understood, that God wanted to use her life for Him.

Explain “received.”

After university, she studied theology and missiology. She came to work 5 years in the backlands, after that 11 years in East Timor and one year in Malysia. She went back to Brazil in 2014 and got married in 2016. And today she is ready again for one more term on the transcultural field.

1.  More details on your after university study.   Where and what programs.   2.  More details on your work in the Sertao (was this Itaporanga?)  Can you write a paragraph about East Timor and Malaysia?

Carlo Jaeger - Early Years

I am a European, born in 1963 to a traditional Catholic familiy in Luxembourg, a small country in Western Europe that is considered 98% Catholic.

In 1982, I got my degree in gastronomy.  This led to diverse diverse work experiences as a cook, waiter, receptionist, sales clerk, and other jobs in hotels.  These jobs always provided contact with people from different countries around the world.

In 1987, I found myself  jobless.  A former work colleague invited me to attend an American Bible church. I started attending and after 3 months, I opend my life to Christ.

I worked a couple of years in Switzerland and after returning to Luxembourg, my work schedule permitted me to attend a French speaking Assembly of God. There I got to know the Holy Spirit of God.  Then, I was led to  worship in an English speaking CoG [What is this?], where I stayed for 13 years. That church had 45 nationalities. I saw my faith grounded and rooted more deeply in the Word of God.  It was  gratifying to live alongside so many people from different nations, deepening my transcultural vision.

What is CoG?

Carlo Jaeger - Missionary Calling

We had a missions conference [more specifics please], where the speaker challenged the audience to commit their to Christ. At that conference, I gave the boat [??] of my life to Christ.

Always had contact with imigrants, where God gave the oportunity to share His love and pray, and to learn other languages. I see this gift as a door to expand the kingdom of God.

As part of my calling, God gave me a missionary spouse. Now I am in Brazil, equipping myself to serve Him better, be it in the backlands or on transcultural territory.

The Mission Challenge - Europe

Some consider Europe to be a post-Christian land.  Years ago, Christianity was prevalent in Europe, but the temptations of pride in Man’s wisdom pushed aside the eternal reality revealed by God.  Like in the USA, prosperity is a lure and lavish living is the temptation.  Yet the people of Europe are spiritually poor and are walking into their own destruction.  God calls us to love our neighbors.  Our neighbors in Europe need to know the love of Jesus.

How to Support Sandra Lima's work in East Timor

I work in teaching (theology and Portuguese language), teacher and worker training, translation and research. I need to raise a living for expenses with dot matrix printing, language aids, and renting a specific place for work;

East Timor is a very poor country with very large needs for economic and social development.  Pray that the gospel of Jesus can take root in this needy land and that the nation will mature as an evangelical Christian stronghold.  Pray for the physical, medical, social and especially spiritual development of this land.

“My car in Timor”.  East Timor presents great challenges.  Serving effectively among the Timorese with their daunting social challenges is difficult. There is a lot of contamination – especially with tuberculosis. And  public transport is not good in this country.  Faced with these difficulties, the challenge of embracing the project “my car in Timor”. I need to raise 5000 dollars.
