Goldemberg August 2019

Goldemberg and Jacqueline Mission Update - August 2019

Taking the Gospel to the Quilombolos in Bahia, Brazil

Sending of Goldemberg and Jacquiline

Greetings

Grace and Peace Dear friends and partners,

    We praise God for the lives of each of you who have accompanied us in the challenges and tasks the Lord has entrusted to us. Our prayer is that each one of you will be enjoying full communion with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May He in His infinite mercy continue to strengthen you and broaden the missionary vision.

Our Sending

    On June 26, we left João Pessoa for a new stage of our lives and ministry. It was a few years of tremendous growth and learning where we were able to train at the Russell Shedd Seminary and the Juvep Mission Center for Mission Preparation. During this time, too, Goldemberg was able to serve and be shaped by the Lord by working in the administrative office of Juvep. No doubt it was a precious time.

    We arrived in Bahia on June 27 and stayed in the city of Itabuna waiting for our move to arrive in the city of Itacaré and vacating the house where we live. These days we had the privilege of spending time with the Goldemberg family and also with its sending church, the First Baptist Church of Itabuna.

A New Home

    On June 17, we settled permanently in Itacaré and we are adjusting to the beginning of the work. Because it is a cross-cultural context, the work of evangelizing quilombola communities requires great caution and understanding of the context in which they are inserted, their routine, customs and understanding of what is around them.

    We understand that good gospel communication requires a good relationship with the people. Thus, we have prayed that the Lord will open doors to this relationship and living together, as it is not yet possible to live within rural communities, and so we are residing in the nearest city (Itacaré).

The Work Begins

    Given the precarious social reality among quilombolas in general, our desire is to enter these communities serving in the area of education. In the coming days we will talk to leaders from two of the six communities and be willing to work on adult literacy and school reinforcement. Our prayer is for the Lord to open this door or show us another way according to His will that is good, perfect, and pleasant.

Praise

    We praise God for each one who has supported us in this period of outreach and change and motivated us in this early work in the field. Thank you very much, we continue to count on your prayers.

Prayer Requests

  1. For the adaptation in the new city and good relationship with the neighborhood;
  2. By strategies that bring us closer and give us a good relationship between the quilombolas;
  3. That we may be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit in every decision to be made;
  4. For the sustenance, may we meet the financial expenses in this new time.
